Hello - I am coming to New Forest to visit my ancestor's place of residence.
I was adopted - and this is my biological mother's side - which I have painstakingly traced -
I will be in New Forest on a weekend which hampers my research at any government office - however perhaps some residents know of this name - or the locations and could kindly help. Here is the lineage -
One of the addresses on the Census was Butts Lawn.
James Burton b. 1710 in Brockenhurst m. Sarah Short
William Burton b 1736 in Brockenhurst m. Elizabeth Yeates
James Burton b. 1779 in Brockenhurst m. Elizabeth Hatch (b. Bramshaw)
John Burton b. 1817 m.Eliza Hayter (b. Lymington)
Benjamin Burton b. 1855 m. Sarah Mossman (b. Clophill - they migrated to Canada, then California)
Benjamin is my great, great grandfather. He died in Los Angeles.
According to the census, many were listed as "Forest Workers" - Other family names in the area are Hatch, Budd, Yeaters, Short, Silly-Silence.
It would be nice to connect with anyone who is a Burton - many stayed in the area, some came to U.S. and Canada.
Thank you
Blair Larsen
Can anyone in the Brockenhurst or wider New Forest help Blair to trace his relatives please?
