WE HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A HOLIDAY IN MOCKBEGGER IN THE NEW FOREST,(12TH-19TH JULY) WE TRAVELLED ABOUT AND SAW LOTS OF PONIES, BUT ONLY ABOUT TWO YOUNG FOALS.WHY WAS THIS- IS IT TOO EARLY FOR FOALS ? I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO HEAR FROM YOU.
THANKS, CHRISTINE MAIN.
Hi
Thanks for your question and I'm pleased you enjoyed staying at Mockbeggar, it's a lovely areas of the New Forest and not too busy.
Funnily enough yesterday we came through there and saw 3 different sets of baby donkeys with their mums. They'd only just been born.
Fewer foals about because last year very few stallions were put out. This was because the price of foals is currently ridiculously low and also the current stallion stock is getting a bit harder to manage o ensure no cross breeding of bloodlines.
This year young stallions were put out to make sure the blood lines remained good. i.e. males were not brreding within their own bloodlines.
Hope this gives you some info you find helpful.
Thanks again and hope you return soon to enjoy the New Forest.
